On the 11th hour of the 11th day of
the 11th month 2004 the Desert Fliers Command held a formation at the
Palm Springs Air Museum to dedicate the first and only tribute in the
world to honor and pay tribute to the members of the Desert Fliers
Command-all of whom were awarded the DFC medal. The monument took the
form of an aircraft in flight and appropriately named "The Wall of
Honor". The Wall is in a place in the center of "The Walk of
Honor. The wings on both side of the Wall are etched in gold with the
names of our members. The center of the Walk of Honor has bricks
laid in a pathway from the base of the Wall outward to the walk. The
wall did not allow space for all members names to be inscribed
thus we are able to insure that our members names (also etched in gold)
as well as new members to be an integral part of the "Wall of
Honor"
"The Wall of Honor"
and "The Walk of Honor" ( two years in the making ) was
inspired and created by Lee Stanley Lcdr USNR ret Commanding Officer of
the Desert Fliers Command to pay homage and honor to the members of the
Desert Fliers Command who are awarded the prestigious DISTINGUISHED
FLYING CROSS MEDAL for acts of heroism above and beyond the call of
duty.
None of this could have been
accomplished without the guidance and support of Executive Officer David
Switzer Cdr USNR ret and Eugene Ball, graphics, design and project
manager as well as the financial support by Robert Pond, CEO PSAM and
Desert Fliers Command member Richard 'Dick" Parker Captain AAC.
