Don Amundson was born Sept 2nd 1924 and raised in Decatur, Illinois. He attended Milliken college in Decatur and enlisted in the Air,Force in December of 1942. He graduated form cadet training in June of 1944 as a 2nd Lt. Pilot. He then became a part of an Air Force experiment to get pilots to combat faster. They sent the pilots direct from cadet graduation into comat. So Don was sent to the island of Corsica to join the 447th bomb squadron, 321st Bomb group,57th Bomb Wing, in the 12th Air Force and learned how to fly the B25 in training there at the combat air field . after being checked out as a qualified B25 pilot he started flying in combat. He flew 68 missions from Oct 1944 to April 1945 and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and 9 Air medals.

After the service Don Amundson enrolled at the University of Wisconsin where he obtained a degree in Agronomy. He was a member if the Alpha Delta Fraternity. After graduation at Wisconsin he went to work in sales for the Roddis Plywood Corporation in Milwaukee Wisconsin later becoming manager of the Cleveland Ohio and then the Milwaukee Wisconsin branches. Don then became the General manager of the Mid City Lumber Company in Milwaukee a job he held until his retirement in 1988. He also served on the board of the Millmeyer Hummert Building Corporation.

In 1947 Don married Patricia "PJ" Ryan who he met at the University of Wisconsin and they had two sons Todd and Timothy.  They live in their country style home in Elm Grove Wisconsin where Don the graduate Agronomist, became an accomplished gardener in his retirement
Don Amundson his sports and hobbies
Don the Agronomist made his prime pastime Gardening and his gardens in Elm Grove Wisconsin were admired by the best of horticulture. He also was an accomplished golfer and active in the Elm Grove, Wisconsin Tennis Club. He and P.J. also are collectors of Dance Band Music
